COVID-19, How can you protect yourself?

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there is currently no vaccine available for the new coronavirus named COVID-19. Therefore, the best way to stay safe is to avoid being exposed to the virus. CDC recommends some preventive measures that can help to control the spread of such diseases, such as:

Wash your hands frequently

Make it a habit to wash your hands after going to the bathroom, before eating or after coughing, sneezing, or blowing your nose. To do so, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer or using soap and water for at least 20 seconds. It would be best if the hand sanitizer contains at least 60% alcohol. This measure is important as it kills the viruses that may be residing in your hands. Also, avoid shaking hands with people who might be coughing or sneezing.

Maintaining distance

It is important to maintain a distance of at least 1 meter (3 feet) from the ones who are coughing or sneezing. If a person infected with COVID-19 coughs or sneeze, you might inhale the virus-containing droplets and become a victim too. Similarly, if you are sick, avoid going out in public as you might infect others.

Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth

Your hands touch millions of objects, and you never know what might contain the virus. Touching your nose, eyes, or mouth with your hands can transfer the virus to your body, making you sick. Also, use a household cleaning spray to clean and disinfect the frequently touched objects at your home.

Stay aware when you cough or sneeze

Whenever you sneeze or cough, cover your mouth with your bent elbow or use a tissue. And remember to dispose of the tissue immediately.

If you are feeling sick, stay home and take some rest. If you have a cough, fever, or difficulty breathing, seek immediate medical help.
